Baripada (Mayurbhanj): Police on Tuesday arrested two persons and seized a large quantity of Corex cough syrup during a raid in the Balimunduli Chhak area under Kuliana Police Station limits in Mayurbhanj district. One more accused is absconding.
The arrested have been identified as Shakti Pani (30) of Sauri village and Bhaskar Majhi (28) of Sanbhaliadiha village. Another accused, Satyavan Majhi of Tangasole village, managed to escape during the operation.
According to police, acting on specific input, the SP’s Special Squad along with Kuliana Police conducted patrolling in the area and intercepted a suspected consignment of Corex cough syrup. During the operation, nine packets of the contraband were seized.
Police said the consignment was allegedly being transported from the Betnoti Police Station area towards Kuliana when it was intercepted.
The accused were apprehended on the spot, while one of them fled from the scene taking advantage of the situation.
Further investigation is underway to trace the absconding accused and ascertain the source and intended destination of the seized contraband.
