Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has expedited the process of forming new Notified Area Councils (NACs) in the state. Reports for 20 new NACs have been received from various districts and sent to the Panchayati Raj Department for analysis, said Housing and Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mohapatra.
After analysis, the proposals will be submitted to the Chief Minister for approval. The Housing and Urban Development Department had earlier asked District Collectors to submit reports in a prescribed format for the formation of new NACs. Currently, urban areas account for 17% of the state’s geography, and the government aims to increase this to 30%.
To achieve this goal, the government has initiated the process of forming new NACs and municipalities. With the receipt of reports for 20 new NACs, the state is moving closer to realizing its urban development objectives.
