Bhubaneswar: Police arrested three persons, including two women, and seized brown sugar worth around Rs 50 lakh during a raid under the Industrial Estate Police Station limits in Khordha district on Tuesday.
Acting on intelligence inputs, a team from the Industrial Estate Police Station conducted the raid as part of the ongoing “Nasha Mukt Abhiyan” campaign aimed at curbing drug trafficking in the state.
Khordha Superintendent of Police Parmar Smit Parshottamdas said the operation led to the recovery of around 500 grams of brown sugar, suspected to be part of an organised supply chain operating in the region. The arrested persons have been identified as the supplier, receiver, and another associate involved in the network.
Preliminary investigations suggest the involvement of a broader drug network, and police are now working to trace backward and forward linkages to identify other members of the racket, the SP said while briefing mediapersons.
Police also seized Rs 18,000 in cash, four mobile phones, and a motorcycle from the possession of the accused during the raid.
Some family members linked to the accused, who were earlier arrested in the same drug-related case, are also currently in jail, the SP added, saying that further investigation is underway to dismantle the supply chain.
