Kamakhyanagar (Dhenkanal): Four census staff members, including two women, were injured after allegedly being attacked while carrying out enumeration work in the Kamakhyanagar area of Dhenkanal district on Wednesday.
The incident took place at Mahimanagar Sahi, where the team had gone to collect census data as part of the ongoing statewide exercise.
According to reports, a member of the public allegedly obstructed the officials during the survey work and verbally abused them. The situation escalated when the accused, along with two of his family members, allegedly assaulted the census team.
Officials said Pushpalata Behera, a teacher of Alatuma Government High School in Kamakhyanagar who was part of the enumeration team, was among those injured. The accused also allegedly damaged a vehicle used by the team during the survey work.
One of the injured women staff members said she sustained facial injuries and was chased by the accused, who allegedly attempted to attack her by throwing stones.
Following the incident, police reached the spot along with senior administrative officials, including the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Tehsildar, SDPO Kamakhyanagar, and local police personnel. An investigation has been initiated into the matter.
Police have detained two persons from Mahimanagar Sahi in connection with the alleged attack, and further inquiry is underway to ascertain the sequence of events and identify all those involved.
