Kataka: A four-year-old girl was killed and her parents sustained critical injuries after an unknown vehicle allegedly ran over them on the Banki-Trishulia main road near Patapur in Kataka district on Wednesday evening, police said.
The accident took place at around 8 pm when the girl’s father was riding a motorcycle towards Trishulia Chowk with his daughter and wife.
According to preliminary reports, an unidentified vehicle hit the motorcycle, causing the child to fall onto the road. The vehicle allegedly ran over the girl, killing her on the spot.
The identity of the deceased child could not be ascertained immediately.
The girl’s parents suffered serious injuries to their heads and faces and were rushed by local residents to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Kataka for treatment. Their condition was stated to be critical.
Following the accident, a large crowd gathered at the spot. Police from Barang police station reached the area, brought the situation under control and launched an investigation to identify the vehicle involved in the accident.
Police are examining the circumstances leading to the accident and efforts are underway to ascertain the identity of the deceased child and trace the vehicle involved.
