Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll has entered its final phase, with enumeration forms distributed to 99.75% of the state’s voters and the digitisation of more than 81% of the collected data completed, officials said on Sunday.
Reviewing the progress of the exercise, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) R. S. Gopalan visited several digitisation centres under the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) and directed officials to expedite the remaining work ahead of the June 28 deadline.
According to official data, enumeration forms have been distributed to 3,33,15,897 voters across the state, covering 99.75% of the electorate included in the revision drive. The exercise aims to ensure that the electoral roll remains accurate, updated, and free of errors.
Officials informed the CEO that online entry of voter data had been completed for 2,71,31,312 electors, representing 81.23% of the total forms collected so far. Gopalan instructed field officials and data-entry teams to complete the digitisation of the remaining forms on a war footing to meet the scheduled timeline.
During his visit, the CEO inspected the digitisation process and reviewed the functioning of the local systems at the centres. Stressing the importance of inclusive electoral participation, he directed officials to ensure that all eligible voters are enrolled and that no deserving elector is left out of the voter list.
“The participation of every eligible voter is essential for a healthy democratic process,” Gopalan said while reviewing the progress of the revision exercise.
The state election machinery has set June 28 as the deadline for completing all activities under the SIR programme. Officials said efforts are being intensified across districts to complete data entry, verification, and related processes before the final publication of the updated electoral roll.
Senior officers from the Chief Electoral Officer’s office and the BMC accompanied Gopalan during the inspection.
