Bhubaneswar: In yet another incident of abandoning newborns on roadsides, a local resident of the Raghunathpur area in Bhubaneswar rescued an infant from under a culvert in front of the Nandankanan police station on Wednesday.

According to reports, an unidentified person covered the newborn baby girl with a sack and threw it under the culvert. The local resident, whose name has not been revealed by the police, informed the cops after rescuing the infant from under the culvert.

The police have admitted the newborn to the Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar. It is learned that the hospital plans to hand over the baby girl to an orphanage if the identity of the infant’s parents is not found.

Currently, the Nandankanan police are investigating the matter and trying to trace the child’s family.
