Balasore: A Myanmarese student of Visva-Bharati University in West Bengal, who was abducted two days ago was rescued from Talsari beach area of Balasore district on Saturday.
As many as 12 people were arrested in this connection. Eight of them are from Purba Medinipur district of West Bengal while others belong to Birbhum in the same State.
The victim, a 31-year-old PhD student, identified as Pannacara is a resident of Kiantha village under Meotha police station in Myanmar
He was kidnapped from the hostel room of the university over business rivalry. After a complaint was lodged by the university authorities in Bolpur police station, the West Bengal police registered a case and started an investigation.
Police found out that Pannacara was in Talsari area of Balasore district after tracking mobile phones. They immediately contacted Balasore SP Sagarika Nath who ordered the Talsari Marine police to take up the investigation.
Talsari Marine Police on the orders of Balasore SP, raided various places and rescued the foreign national from Talsari beach with the arrest of five kidnappers. Seven others were arrested by West Bengal police.
According to police, the abduction was a fallout of a business rivalry. Pannacara had met some youths from Kolkata and planned to take up hair business with them about two months ago. Later, they had a conflict over financial transactions.
