Nayagarh: In a bizarre incident, unidentified miscreants armed with guns and lethal weapons looted kendu leaves worth nearly Rs 2 lakh form a Forest department godown in the Dasapalla area of Odisha’s Nayagarh district on Wednesday late night.
The miscreants also looted the mobile phones of the government staff guarding the Sakeni Kendu Godown.
According to reports, 10-12 masked miscreants armed with pistol, knives and other weapons attacked the government godown and woke up the employees guarding the depot where the kendu leaves collected from the forest were stored. Next, they looted the mobile phones of the guards and locked them up in a room warning of dire consequences if they raised an alarm.
Thereafter, while five of them stood outside, rest of the miscreants entered the godown and looted kendu leaves worth Rs 2 lakh and left the area.
The matter was reported to the Forest department around 2.00 am on Thursday and subsequently to the police. The police are yet to ascertain whether the crime was committed by local miscreants or Maoists.
