Bhubaneswar: A special POCSO court in Khurda district sentenced a man to five years of rigorous imprisonment for attempting to rape his 13-year-old foster daughter.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on convict Bishnu Mahapatra of Balugaon area. In default of payment, he will undergo an additional term of imprisonment.
According to case records, Mahapatra had married his widowed sister-in-law after his elder brother’s death a few years ago. Two years ago, he allegedly attempted to rape his minor foster daughter.
The victim’s mother lodged a complaint at Balugaon police station, following which a case was registered and investigation was initiated.
The court pronounced the verdict after examining witnesses and evidence presented during the trial.
