Bhubaneswar: The Bhadrak district administration has announced Rs 8 lakh compensation for the family of the elderly woman who died after being struck inside the elevator at the Bhadrak district headquarters hospital. A committee led by the Sub-Collector will probe the incident, and further action will be taken based on the committee’s report.
“We have directed the CDMO to replace the lift and prioritize measures to prevent the recurrence of such incidents. A committee has been set up, led by the Sub-Collector, which will investigate the circumstances that led to the incident. Whoever is found guilty will face action,” Bhadrak Collector Dillip Routray said.
A woman patient, identified as Minati Parida of Narasinghapur village in the district, died of suspected suffocation on Thursday after the elevator in which she was being shifted to a ward in the Bhadrak District Headquarters Hospital developed a technical snag and got stranded for some time.
Hospital sources said the woman was brought to the hospital in an ambulance after she fell ill with respiratory problems. After receiving preliminary treatment, she was being shifted to the medicine ward when the mishap occurred.
“The patient, identified as Minati Parida of Narasinghapur village, was being shifted to the medicine ward of the hospital. Due to the malfunction of the elevator, the woman got trapped. She is suspected to have died of suffocation. The reason for the death will be ascertained only after the autopsy,” Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) Bhadrak, Sudhansu Sekhar Bal, said.
