Bhubaneswar: Cyber police in Sambalpur have arrested three siblings for allegedly duping a man of Rs 25 lakh by creating a fake Facebook profile. The accused have been identified as Jharana Badi, Rajesh Badi and Rajkumari Badi.
Sambalpur SP Mukesh Kumar Bhamoo said the siblings allegedly hatched the plan after getting the idea from YouTube. As per the plan, Jharana created a fake Facebook profile in the name of ‘Disha Agarwal’.
She allegedly approached the victim, Lipak Kumar Pradhan, and persuaded him to invest Rs 25 lakh by promising attractive returns. She also reportedly introduced her brother Rajesh as her boyfriend and business partner.
Based on a complaint, Cyber Police Station, Sambalpur registered a case and apprehended the three accused. Police have seized Rs 15.50 lakh in cash, gold and silver ornaments worth around Rs 12 lakh, 20 mobile phones, a laptop and a tablet, a Honda Activa used in the offence, fake identity documents and materials allegedly used for preparing counterfeit currency-like notes. Further investigation is underway.
