Bhadrak Youth Held For Blackmailing Ex-Girlfriend With Morphed Obscene Photos

Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Police Commissionerate has arrested a youth from Bhadrak on charges of blackmailing his ex-girlfriend by using morphed obscene photographs.

The accused allegedly circulated the edited images on various social media platforms and demanded ₹10 lakh from her.

The accused has been identified as Sumit Kumar Das, a resident of Bhadrak district.

According to reports, Sumit and the victim had been in a relationship for four years. However, the relationship ended after the victim accused him of harassment and emotional abuse towards her and her family.

In retaliation to the breakup, Sumit allegedly morphed her private photographs into obscene images. He then used these manipulated photos to blackmail the girl, demanding Rs10 lakh. Later, he shared these images across multiple social media platforms, causing significant distress to the victim.

The victim, upon discovering that her morphed images had been shared online, filed a formal complaint at the Cyber Police Station in Bhubaneswar on April 10, 2025. In her complaint, she requested immediate action against the accused.

The police took swift action and tracked the accused to Bhadrak, where he was arrested. He was forwarded to court on Monday night.

“Upon receiving the complaint, we initiated immediate action. The accused had edited the victim’s photographs in an obscene manner and shared them widely on social media. He also demanded money. We have arrested the accused and are in the process of deleting the associated social media accounts and content,” said Bhubaneswar DCP Jagmohan Meena while addressing a press briefing on Tuesday.
