Bhubaneswar: North Odisha witnessed extremely heavy rainfall in the last 24 hours as a deepening low pressure system brought intense showers across several districts.
According to the data released by the Meteorological Centre of Bhubaneswar at 8:30 am, Bhogorai in Baleshwar district recorded the highest rainfall of 236.0 mm.
The IMD report stated that four stations received extremely heavy rainfall, 15 stations recorded very heavy rainfall, and 16 stations reported heavy rainfall during the period.
The districts of Balasore and Mayurbhanj were the worst affected. In Mayurbhanj, Shamakhunta recorded 230.0 mm of rain, followed by Baripada with 215.2 mm. Other stations in the district that received heavy showers include Bangiriposhi at 170.8 mm, Betanati at 167.0 mm, Muruda at 132.0 mm, and Chandanpur at 130.2 mm.
Balasore district also saw widespread heavy rain. Apart from Bhogarai, Rajghat recorded 204.8 mm, NH-5 Govindpur 185.6 mm, Balasore town 169.4 mm, and Jaleswar 162.0 mm. Stations like Remuna, Bahanga and Rairangpur also recorded more than 120 mm of rainfall.
Other districts reported significant rainfall as well. Champua and Panposh in Keonjhar and Sundargarh recorded 119.0 mm each, while Joda in Keonjhar received 96.2 mm.
In Sambalpur, Naktideul recorded 70.4 mm and in Ganjam, Kodala recorded 65.6 mm.
The Meteorological Centre has said the heavy rain is due to the prevailing low-pressure system over the region.
Authorities have been advised to stay alert in view of rising water levels in rivers and reservoirs across north Odisha.
