Bhubaneswar: A depression has formed over coastal West Bengal and is currently centred close to the Odisha coast, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
According to the IMD bulletin issued at 8:30 AM IST on 13th August 2026, the system is located about 190 km east-northeast of Baripada in Odisha.
The IMD has said that the system concentrated into a Depression and lay centred at 8:30 am today and is likely to move in a northwestward direction during the next 24 hours. It is expected to cross West Bengal and subsequently move towards Jharkhand.
The depression was observed near 22.3°N latitude and 88.6°E, close to northwest of Canning (West Bengal), about 40 km southeast of Kolkata (West Bengal), 130 km east of Medinipur (West Bengal), 190 km east-northeast of Baripada (Odisha) and 260 km east-southeast of Jamshedpur (Jharkhand).
Meanwhile, the IMD has advised fishermen and district administration to remain alert. The depression is likely to bring enhanced rainfall activity over north Odisha, West Bengal and Jharkhand in the coming days.
