Bhubaneswar: The state capital continued to reel under intense heat on Thursday as the mercury touched a scorching 42°C, marking one of the highest temperatures recorded in Bhubaneswar this season.
By 1:30 PM, the temperature in the city had already climbed to 42 degrees Celsius, with the airport area also recording the same high. Locals described the conditions as unbearable, with people feeling like they were being “fried in a hot pan” amid the relentless heat and fiery sun.
On Wednesday, western Odisha bore the brunt of the scorching weather, with Jharsuguda recording 45.6°C — the highest temperature in the country that day. Bhubaneswar had recorded 41.2°C on Wednesday.
While extreme heat has been persisting in western Odisha for the past several days, the intense heatwave has now spread to coastal and southern parts of the state as well.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), there is no significant relief in sight till April 25, with maximum temperatures likely to remain high. However, a slight drop of 2 to 3 degrees Celsius is expected at many places from April 26 onwards.
However, the severe heat has made daily life difficult across Odisha, forcing people to limit outdoor activities during peak afternoon hours.
