Bhubaneswar: Bureaucrat-turned-politician Bijay Patnaik quit the Congress today.
Patnaik sent his resignation to the All India Congress Committee (AICC) through email.
“There was no need for me in the Congress party. I cannot remain in a party with self-esteem which does not need me. Therefore, I resigned from the Congress party,” said Patnaik to the media.
Patnaik further said that he had joined politics to serve the people and now he will serve the people directly.
“I won’t join any party right now,” he added.
The AICC had dissolved the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee following the debacle of the party in the polls.
On Wednesday the AICC announced the formation of a steering committee for Odisha in the absence of a full-fledged Pradesh Congress Committee.
Several senior leaders have been excluded from the steering committee announced by the AICC which includes Patnaik.
