Bhubaneswar: Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader and G Udayagiri MLA Saluga Pradhan was elected as the Deputy Speaker of the Odisha Assembly unopposed on Tuesday. No other political party fielded any candidate for the post.
Saluga Pradhan, the BJD’s tribal face of Kandhamal district, was the sole contestant for the post. Pradhan has been a member of the Odisha Assembly since 2019.
The post of Deputy Speaker fell vacant following the resignation of Rajanikant Singh on November 9 to work for the BJD organisation.
Meanwhile, the Winter Session of the Odisha Assembly commenced today and will continue till December 30.
