BJD To Gherao DGP Office On May 14 Over ‘Collapse Of Law And Order’

Cuttack: Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Tuesday announced that it will gherao the office of the Director General of Police (DGP) in Cuttack on May 14 and submit a memorandum, alleging a complete collapse of law and order in Odisha under the BJP government.

Addressing a press conference, BJD Vice President Pratap Jena alleged that incidents of murder, dacoity, brutality, rape and looting have increased significantly since the BJP’s “double-engine government” came to power in the state.

He cited the alleged killing of Soumya Ranjan in Balianta in the presence of police and a recent murder in Nayagarh, claiming that such incidents reflected the deteriorating law and order situation in Odisha. Jena further alleged that the “apathy and incompetence” of both the Central and state governments towards such incidents had shocked civil society.

Claiming that Odisha, once considered a peaceful state, now figures at the top in the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) crime list, the BJD leader said the party would launch statewide protests to demand immediate steps to restore law and order.
