Keonjhar: The District and Sessions Court in Keonjhar has sentenced 30-year-old Chasa Dehuri to life imprisonment in connection with the murder of Neelamani Giri.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on the convict. In case of default in payment, he will have to undergo an additional one year in jail. According to the prosecution, the incident occurred on October 7, 2021, at Kadakala village under Nayakote police station limits. Neelamani Giri was grazing cattle along with Jagadish Dehuri and Sagu Dehuri when an argument broke out with Chasa Dehuri over a minor issue around 4 PM.
During the altercation, Chasa Dehuri allegedly assaulted the group with the handle of an axe. He later returned armed with a bow and arrows and shot Neelamani Giri with an arrow, causing his death on the spot. The other two managed to escape.
Following a complaint lodged by the victim’s brother, Ramesh Giri, Nayakote police registered Case No. 50/21 under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code and arrested Chasa Dehuri.
