Jagatsinghpur: The Excise department Squad of Jagatsinghpur district seized 49 grams of brown sugar worth an estimated Rs 4.90 lakh during a raid on Somanath Hat road and arrested a suspected drug peddler, officials said on Thursday.
According to District Excise Squad Inspector Prabhas Kumar Choudhury, the team had received information that Lipak Kumar Das of Galupada village under Jagatsinghpur Sadar police station was allegedly involved in selling brown sugar.
Acting on the tip-off, the Excise team conducted a raid on Somanath Hat road and intercepted Das. During a search, 49 grams of brown sugar was allegedly recovered from his possession, following which he was arrested.
The seized contraband has been estimated to be worth around Rs 4.90 lakh, the official said.
Sub-Inspector Bhagyalaxmi Dalai, ASI Kshirod Sahu and constables Sukanta Majhi, Biswaranjan Swain and Subhashree Biswal, among others, participated in the raid.
Inspector Choudhury said Das was subsequently produced before a court in connection with the case.
