Bhubaneswar: The birthplace of legendary freedom fighter Chakra Bisoi at Binjagiri village in Ganjam district will be developed under the ‘Baraputra Heritage Village Scheme’, Commerce and Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhusan Jena announced on Saturday.
Taking to social media platform X, the Minister said that the inclusion of Binjagiri in the heritage village initiative would help preserve the glorious legacy, sacrifices, and contributions of Chakra Bisoi, one of the most revered freedom fighters from Ganjam who played a significant role in India’s freedom struggle.
A comprehensive development plan has been prepared for the village with an estimated investment of Rs 15 crore, the Minister informed. The project will focus on improving basic infrastructure and constructing a museum dedicated to showcasing the life, struggles, achievements, and heroic contributions of Chakra Bisoi.
Highlighting the importance of the initiative, Jena said that the heritage development project would inspire future generations by bringing to light the courage, patriotism, and sacrifices of the great freedom fighter. The proposed museum would also help visitors understand the historical significance of Binjagiri and Chakra Bisoi’s role in Odisha’s freedom movement.
Expressing gratitude for the decision, Minister Bibhuti Bhusan Jena thanked Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Culture Minister Suryabanshi Suraj for recognising the historical importance of Chakra Bisoi’s birthplace and taking steps for its preservation and development.
The Minister further stated that the Odisha government is committed to honouring the contributions of the state’s great personalities and preserving their inspiring stories for future generations. The development of Binjagiri as a heritage village is expected to strengthen cultural tourism and highlight the rich historical heritage of Ganjam district.
