Cuttack: The Special Vigilance Court in Cuttack has rejected the bail application of Bhimsen Tudu, the accused boyfriend in the mysterious death case of medical student Chandrika Hembram.
The court turned down the bail plea citing the serious social impact of the case and the gravity of the allegations against the accused.
It is pertinent to mention that Tudu is the prime suspect in the alleged suicide of Chandrika, a third-year medical student of Fakir Mohan Medical College and Hospital, Balasore. Her body was recovered from the sandbed of Kathajodi river near Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Setu under Barang police limits on June 4.
Following a complaint by her family, Baranga Police registered a case and arrested her boyfriend Bhimsen Tudu.
According to the police investigation, despite being in a long-term relationship, Bhimsen allegedly harassed Chandrika over her caste and profession. The situation worsened after he reportedly developed a relationship with another woman, leading to a rift between the couple.
In a separate development, the Odisha government had taken strict action against Bhimsen Tudu a few days ago. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi dismissed him from the Odisha Taxation and Accounts Service (OT&AS) cadre. The state government also declared that he would not be eligible for any future government job.
The court’s decision to deny bail comes as a major blow to the accused. Further investigation into Chandrika’s death is continuing.
