Cuttack: A major raid was conducted by the CMC Enforcement squad in Cuttack’s Jholasahi area, resulting in the seizure of four bags of banned Chinese manja thread. The banned thread, known for causing numerous deaths and injuries, had been prohibited by the state government.
The raid was part of a larger effort by the police and CMC enforcement to crack down on the sale and use of the dangerous thread, particularly during the kite flying season. Despite the ban, the use of manja continues, prompting the administration to take strict action.
The Cuttack district administration had imposed a blanket ban on the sale and use of manja thread following the death of a minor girl in 2016. The High Court had also directed the administration to ban the thread and enforce the prohibition strictly.
The administration has appealed to residents to refrain from flying kites on rooftops, streets, and public places, and has identified separate safe areas for kite flying.
