Bhubaneswar: Thousands of devotees gathered along Bada Danda in Puri on Monday to witness the sacred Snana Yatra of his sibling deities at the Shree Jagannath Temple. Among those present were Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, and Puri MP Sambit Patra.
CM Majhi felt deeply blessed to have witnessed the deities in their divine form.
Taking to X, Chief Minister Mohan Majhi shared his experience stating “Obtained boundless fortune by beholding the divine vision of the Chaturdhamurti at the Snana Bedi during the sacred hour of Devasnan Purnima. May Mahaprabhu’s boundless compassion and blessings bring happiness, peace, prosperity, and progress into every life. This is my prayer at the lotus feet of Lord Jagannath.”
Earlier in the day, the deities were brought to the Snana Mandap in a ceremonial Pahandi procession following the Mangal Arati. The Snana Mandap, located within the temple complex and facing east towards Bada Danda, served as the venue for the rituals. The deities are made to wear ‘Senapatta’, a body armour crafted from ‘Baula’ wood, by the Daitapatis.
On the mandap, the deities will undergo ritualistic bath (Devasnan) with 108 pitchers of scented herbal water drawn from the Suna Kuan well inside the temple premises. Later, servitors will perform a series of intricate rituals before the bathing.
The Snana Jatra marks an important occasion in the annual chariot festival cycle of Lord Jagannath, drawing devotees from across the state and beyond to seek blessings during this auspicious Debasnana Purnima.
