Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police arrested five members of a gang smuggling country-made guns and involved in several other crimes and seized live bullets from them in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday night.
“During a blockade on Tuesday night, a special squad of Commissionerate Police arrested five persons with five country-made guns, including two revolvers and three mousers, 15 live bullets, and cash to the tune of Rs 84,000. The accused were travelling in a car, which was also seized,” Commissioner of Police Suresh Devidutt Singh told a presser on Wednesday.
Singh further said several cases are pending against them in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Puri. “The gang led by Chandan Pradhan of Khurdha was involved in several dacoity, theft and burglary cases. They were also operating in Khurdha, Jagatsinghpur and other nearby districts,” he added.
Apart from these five, police also arrested nine others involved in various criminal cases. Those arrested are from Tamando, Mancheswar and Airport areas of Bhubaneswar.
At least 102 grams of gold have been seized from their possession.
The Commissionerate Police would continue its drive against criminals and antisocial and will follow a zero-tolerance approach to ensure the safety and security of people, the CP added.
