Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissionerate Police on Wednesday raided several places in the capital city and apprehended two hardcore criminals involved in illegal arms. The accused have been identified as Suraj Parida, a diploma holder in Electrical Engineering, and Tapudhar Nayak.

The police also seized 5 semi-automatic pistols, 24 rounds of live ammunition, mobile phones, and magazines from the possession of the accused, informed Police Commissioner Sanjeeb Panda.

Keeping in view the upcoming elections, the Commissionerate Police has launched a massive drive, said Panda. “Ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, the special teams of Commissionerate Police are conducting raids and tracking the illegal firearms trade in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar. We have received information about the source of arms and soon will get to know more on the arms trade after we take the accused on remand,” he added.

According to the Commissionerate Police, 17 firearms have been seized from Bhubaneswar and Cuttack so far in 2024.
