Balasore: Police busted a tea factory allegedly involved in the manufacturing and selling of counterfeit tea by fraudulently using the labels of several well-known brands near Agrawala Chowk under Jaleswar police limits in Balasore district, on Friday.
The owner of the tea factory has been identified as Chiku Bhuyan.
As per reports, a tea factory in Jaleswar, named Chiku Auto Parts, has been running a counterfeit tea business for the last 15 years. The factory was caught selling fake tea under famous brand names like Tata Tea. After receiving complaints, the Delhi High Court ordered the concerned authorities to take action against the factory.
Following the Delhi High Court’s directive, a special team in coordination with the local police raided the spurious tea factory. During raid, the investigating team found that the factory employees were using logos, colours and fonts of other top-branded companies on their packaging and selling it as if it were a genuine product.
On the other hand, the factory owner Bhuyan stated that the companies mostly objected to the use of specific taglines in the packaging and demanded a complete ban on it.
“They are complaining about the use of word ‘Premium’ on the box and questioning why we are using ‘Gold’ in the packaging. We have been using these words for the last 2 to 3 years and now they are demanding us to stop using them,” Bhuyan said.
