Depression In BoB Likely To Cause Heavy Rainfall In Odisha Till Aug 3: IMD

Bhubaneswar: The regional office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) here on Monday predicted squally weather with wind speed reaching 45 to 55 kmph along and off Odisha coast during August 1 and 3 under the influence of well-marked low-pressure area over central parts of north Bay of Bengal.

With projections suggesting that the system is likely to concentrate into a depression in the next 12 hours, the eastern part of the country will be in for some extensive rainfall activity in the coming days. Widespread light to moderate rains, thunderstorms, and lightning with isolated heavy downpours (64.5 mm-115.5 mm) are very likely over Odisha between Monday and Friday. Further, isolated very heavy rainfall (115.5 mm-204.5 mm) is also very likely over Odisha until Wednesday.

Day-1: (Valid up to 0830 Hrs IST of 01.08.23)

Orange Warning: Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) is very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Balasore, and Bhadrak.

Yellow Warning: Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Jajpur, Cuttack, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Angul, Deogarh, Sundergarh, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Boudh, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Nawarangpur, and Koraput.

Day-2: (Valid from 0830 Hrs IST of 01.08.2023 to 0830 Hrs IST of 02.08.2023.)

Orange Warning: Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) is very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Boudh, Sundergarh, Cuttack, and Balasore.

Yellow Warning: Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Nayagarh, Khordha, Puri, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Bolangir, and Nuapada.

Day-3: (Valid from 0830 Hrs IST of 02.08.2023 to 0830 Hrs IST of 03.08.2023)

Orange Warning: Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) is very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Sundergarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Keonjhar, Sonepur, Boudh, Bolangir, Nuapada, Kalahandi and Kandhamal.

Yellow Warning: Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Nayagarh, and Nawarangpur.

Day-4: (Valid from 0830 Hrs IST of 03.08.2023 to 0830 Hrs IST of 04.08.2023)

Yellow Warning: Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundergarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Bolangir, Nuapada, and Mayurbhanj.
