Kalahandi: Normal life was paralysed in Dharmagarh in the Kalahandi district of Odisha on Wednesday in support of a dawn-to-dusk bandh to press for the demand to grant district status to Dharmagarh.
All shops, markets, and educational institutions remained closed while public transport vehicles were off the road. The bandh call has been supported by the traders association, local bar council, motor vehicles association, and others.
According to reports, though the people of Dharmagarh have been demanding district status for the place for the last several years, all their pleas have fallen on deaf ears. The bandh protagonists have been on a dharna for 37 days in support of their demand.
However, the two blocks of Junagarh and Jaipatna are not supporting the bandh as the people of Junagarh too have been demanding a district status for their area.
