Bhubaneswar: A major scare occurred near Jharpada bridge in Bhubaneswar when two empty train rakes came into close proximity during a shunting operation, triggering initial reports of a possible head-on collision.
According to early reports, one rake was moving from Bhubaneswar to Mancheswar while another was proceeding in the opposite direction, creating panic among locals who feared a collision. However, East Coast Railway (ECoR) has now clarified that the incident took place during a slow-speed shunting movement involving two empty rakes.
The Railway stated that one empty rake was being moved for scheduled maintenance when it came close to another stationary empty rake. Both rakes were completely empty at the time of the incident.
Prompt action by railway officials and technical staff prevented any untoward incident. No casualties, injuries, or damage to rolling stock were reported.
Train services on the main line and passenger operations remained completely unaffected.
ECoR is conducting an internal inquiry to ascertain how the two empty rakes came into close proximity during the shunting process.
