Rairangpur (Mayurbhanj): In a tragic incident, an elderly man was killed in an elephant attack on Wednesday near Dumurikudar hill under the Kanapata reserve forest area of Rairangpur forest range and Bishoi Wildlife Sanctuary in Mayurbhanj district.
The victim, Budharaya Soren (63) from Pandupani village under Chadeipahadi panchayat of Gorumahisani police station area, was grazing cattle near the village forest when a wild tusker suddenly appeared. The elephant attacked him, wrapping its trunk around him and trampled him to death on the spot. Villagers later informed the Forest department about the incident.
The Gorumahisani police station was notified about the tragic incident this evening. As per reports, the body still lies on the hill and will be retrieved tomorrow. Local residents reported that a herd of six elephants, including one tusker, has been roaming in this forest area.
The incident highlights the growing human-elephant conflict in the region, with villagers demanding better protection measures from Forest authorities.
