Angul: An elephant fell into an open well at Jangur Munda under Chhendipada forest range in Angul district after a herd of 20 to 25 elephants entered the area from Deogarh in search of food.
Locals informed forest officials after one of the animals fell into the well. A team led by the Chhendipada Ranger reached the spot and engaged two JCB machines to widen the well and rescue the elephant.
However, the operation was halted as the rest of the herd chased the rescue team, posing a threat of attack. Forest officials are now trying to drive the herd away from the site to resume the rescue operation.
