Bhubaneswar: Odisha continues to reel under intense heat with western districts recording 43°C and coastal areas hovering between 38-40°C. The India Meteorological Department has forecast similar conditions for Sunday, with little change expected on Monday.
A slight drop in temperature is likely by Tuesday, April 28, but officials said there may be no major relief. The Met Department has predicted no significant change in temperature for the next 2-3 days, after which it may decrease by 2 to 4 degrees. On Sunday, some places in South Odisha may receive rain due to Kalbaisakhi activity.
Coastal Odisha and adjoining districts will remain hot and humid for the next two days. There is a high possibility of norwester, or Kalbaisakhi, in South Odisha till May 1. Heatwave conditions are likely to prevail in parts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Jharsuguda, Balangir, Sambalpur, and Angul districts.
Meanwhile, 17 places in Odisha recorded temperatures above 40°C on Saturday. Jharsuguda was the hottest at 44.1°C, about 3 degrees above normal. Titilagarh touched 43°C, 2.5 degrees above normal. Balangir recorded 43.5°C, Nuapada 43°C, Sundargarh 42.8°C, Sambalpur and Hirakud 42.6°C, Sonepur 42.3°C, and Bhawanipatna 42.0°C. Bhubaneswar and Cuttack saw a slight dip, recording 36.6°C and 36.8°C respectively.
