Bhubaneswar: A carcass of an elephant with its tusks removed has been found in the Khesara forest range under Narasinghpur.
As per reports, the elephant is suspected to have been killed around a week ago. The carcass was discovered following a tip-off from local forest guards.
Upon being informed, forest officials led by Athagarh DFO, SCF Manoj Patra, and Bhubaneswar Western Range Officer Pradip Kumar Nayak rushed to the spot and found the elephant carcass. However, the exact cause of death is still unclear.
Samples from the carcass have been collected and sent to the OUAT laboratory in Bhubaneswar for further examination. The exact cause of death will be known only after the report is received, said Athagarh DFO and Western Range Officer.
The elephant’s age is estimated to be between 20-25 years. The forest officials have detained one person for questioning in connection with the elephant’s death.
