Bhubaneswar: A Special Vigilance Court in Kendujhar on Tuesday sentenced former Development Clerk-cum-Store In-charge of Champua Block, Ganeswar Giri (now retired), to two years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 in a corruption case.
According to an official press release, Giri was charge-sheeted by Odisha Vigilance under Sections 13(2) read with 13(1)(c) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, along with Sections 409, 468 and 471 of the Indian Penal Code, for alleged misappropriation of government funds during his tenure between 2007–08 and 2010–11.
The Vigilance department alleged that he manipulated the cement stock register of Champua Block, leading to misappropriation of government funds.
After examining the evidence on record, the Special Judge, Vigilance, Kendujhar, held him guilty and awarded the sentence of two years’ rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 10,000.
Following the conviction, Odisha Vigilance is likely to move the competent authority for stoppage of pension benefits of the retired official.
