Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday declared Odia film ‘Meher Munda’ tax-free across Odisha.

Approving the proposal, the Chief Minister cited the film’s cultural and social significance. Directed by noted filmmaker Nikunja Hota, Meher Munda released on May 15, 2026.

The film is based on the lives, struggles, resilience, and achievements of Odisha’s handloom weaver community. It highlights the state’s traditional heritage and craftsmanship while portraying the realities faced by artisans.

The tax exemption aims to promote films that showcase Odisha’s cultural legacy and draw attention to the contributions of local communities.

The decision is expected to make the film more accessible to viewers and give a boost to the regional film industry.
