Bhubaneswar: Several parts of Odisha continued to reel under intense heat on Tuesday as seven locations recorded temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius.
Jharsuguda emerged as the hottest place in the state with 41.6°C, followed by Bolangir at 41.4°C and Boudh at 41.2°C. Bargarh recorded 40.6°C, while Sambalpur registered 40.4°C. Hirakud and Talcher also touched the 40°C mark exactly.
Meanwhile, the state capital Bhubaneswar recorded 38.6°C and Cuttack saw 37.4°C, indicating that while the coastal regions were relatively cooler, the western and northern districts bore the brunt of the scorching heat.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow Warning for Wednesday, June 10, urging people to remain alert.
Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds, with speeds reaching 40-50 kmph, are very likely to occur during the afternoon or evening hours at one or two places across a large number of districts, including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghapur, Cuttack, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabrangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khurda, and Nayagarh.
In addition, hot and humid conditions are expected to prevail at isolated places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghapur, Cuttack, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khurda, and Nayagarh. Residents in these areas have been advised to take necessary precautions, stay hydrated, and avoid direct exposure to the sun during peak hours.
