Brahmapur: A massive fire broke out at a car service centre near the Haladiapadar bus terminal on the outskirts of Brahmapur early Saturday morning, prompting the deployment of more than 10 fire tenders to bring the blaze under control.
The fire was reported around 6am, following which fire-fighting teams from Brahmapur and nearby areas, including Chikiti, Patrapur, Ganjam, Chhatrapur and Rambha, rushed to the spot along with the striking force.
The blaze rapidly spread through the service centre, damaging several vehicles, car parts and other materials. A large quantity of goods worth lakhs of rupees was reportedly destroyed in the fire. Several vehicles and car parts were also gutted.
Firefighters faced difficulties in entering the premises as the doors of the service centre were closed. They had to cut open the doors before launching the firefighting operation.
Robotic monitors were also pressed into service to help firefighters tackle the blaze from a safe distance.
Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the incident.
A fire official said the exact cause of the blaze was yet to be ascertained. A short circuit is suspected to have triggered the fire, though the matter is under investigation.
After a prolonged firefighting operation, the blaze was brought under control and completely doused, the official said.
Fire officials are assessing the extent of the damage, while further investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the fire.
