Bhubaneswar: A special vigilance court in Berhampur sentenced a former Revenue Inspector of Kadua Revenue Circle under Jagannathprasad Tahasil in Ganjam district to undergo rigorous imprisonment for one year in a corruption case.
The court also imposed a fine on Pratap Chandra Sadangi who was charge-sheeted by Odisha Vigilance under sections 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d)/7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
The case stemmed from allegations that Sadangi demanded and accepted a bribe from a complainant to release his seized vehicle transporting boulders. Following the conviction, Odisha Vigilance will move the competent authority to stop his pension.
The case was investigated by Arun Kumar Nayak, Ex-Inspector, Vigilance, Berhampur Division, and prosecuted by Surendra Panda, Special Public Prosecutor, Vigilance, Berhampur.
