Sambalpur: Police, with the help of Delhi Police, have arrested four more persons in connection with the robbery at Manapuram Gold Finance of Budharaja Branch in Sambalpur.
The accused are Vikash Kumar alias John Wright (25) of Bihar, Sanjeev Kumar Paswan of Vaishali, Bihar, Yash Anand of Patna, Bihar, and Piyush Raj of Patna, Bihar
The mastermind behind the crime, Subodh Singh, was brought on remand from Presidency Correctional Home in Alipore, Kolkata.
According to Sambalpur SP Mukesh Bhamoo, John Wright and Piyush Raj had previously committed similar crimes in Udaipur, Rajasthan (25 kg gold) and Madhya Pradesh (17 kg gold).
So far, eight people have been arrested in this connection, the SP added.
The gang had camped in neighbouring Bargarh district for a month, planning their modus operandi. They sold the gold ornaments and purchased weapons, which were later seized by the police. These weapons are not manufactured in India, he informed.
The crime was committed on January 3, 2025, when five masked individuals, armed with pistols, entered the Manapuram Gold Finance Ltd. office and stole 27.52 kg of gold ornaments and Rs 4,81,382 in cash. The police have registered a case and are investigating further.
