Nuapada: Police have arrested 13 persons, including six women, for smuggling ganja in a novel way – by concealing it within their bodies. The operation was conducted near the new bus stand in Nuapada city, resulting in the seizure of approximately 62 kilograms of ganja and one mobile phone.
The arrested smugglers, 12 of whom hail from Bhopal and Vidisha districts of Madhya Pradesh, while one is from Komna area of Nuapada district, were produced in court. According to Nuapada Superintendent of Police Amrit Pal Singh, the accused were part of a well-organised smuggling network.
This operation is part of a larger initiative by the Odisha Police, launched on the orders of the Director General of Police YB Khurania, to crack down on ganja smuggling in the state. The Nuapada police have registered two separate cases in connection with the arrests.
This recent bust is not an isolated incident, as Odisha police have been actively working to dismantle ganja smuggling networks across the state. In a similar operation earlier this year, the Odisha Excise Department seized around 160 kg of ganja valued at Rs 50 lakh, arresting seven persons in connection with the smuggling attempt from Gajapati district to Mumbai
