Bhubaneswar: Large parts of Odisha continued to experience intense heat conditions on Monday, with several places recording temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius, according to the Evening Weather Bulletin issued by the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre.
Jharsuguda emerged as the hottest place in the state with a maximum temperature of 43.4 degrees Celsius. Boudh recorded 42.8 degrees Celsius, while Angul and Sambalpur registered 42.3 degrees Celsius each.
Hirakud recorded 42 degrees Celsius, followed by Baripada at 41.8 degrees Celsius. Bhawanipatna, Bolangir and Titlagarh recorded 41.5 degrees Celsius each, while Talcher logged 41.6 degrees Celsius.
Other places witnessing high temperatures included Balasore at 40.2 degrees Celsius, Sundargarh at 40.5 degrees Celsius, Bhadrak at 40 degrees Celsius and Bargarh at 40.4 degrees Celsius.
The state capital Bhubaneswar recorded 39 degrees Celsius, while Cuttack registered 39.6 degrees Celsius. Puri remained relatively cooler at 35.4 degrees Celsius and Gopalpur recorded 33.6 degrees Celsius.
The bulletin said light rainfall activity was confined to a few isolated places. Rayagada received 7 mm rainfall, while Baripada recorded 3.8 mm. Trace rainfall was reported from Gopalpur and Rourkela. Most other stations reported no rainfall during the observation period.
Among the minimum temperatures, Daringbadi remained the coolest place in the state at 22 degrees Celsius.
The IMD data also indicated high humidity levels across coastal and interior districts, contributing to discomfort despite isolated rainfall activity.
