Bhubaneswar: A welcome relief from the scorching heat is expected to hit Odisha soon, as thunderstorms and rain showers are forecasted to sweep across the state.
According to the India Meteorological Department’s forecast, Odisha is expected to experience a fresh spell of thunderstorms, lightning, and potential hailstorms triggered by Kalabaisakhi starting today and lasting for the next four days. The forecast will likely bring much-needed relief from the heat.
Going by the IMD prediction, there will be no significant change in the day temperature in the next 2 days. However, the temperature may drop by 3-5°C in the next 5 days.
On April 26, thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph are expected in the afternoon or evening at isolated locations in Malkangiri, Ganjam, Koraput, and Mayurbhanj districts.
For April 27, the IMD has issued an Orange warning for Koraput, Ganjam, Sundargarh, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Keonjhar, and Bhadrak, forecasting thunderstorms, lightning, hailstorms, and winds of 50-60 kmph in some areas. Additionally, thunderstorms with winds of 30-40 kmph are likely in Malkangiri, Rayagada, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Nabarangapur, Nayagarh, Nuapada, Bolangir, Bargarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, and Deogarh.
On April 28, an Orange warning is in place for Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Bhadrak, Angul, Ganjam, Jajpur, Sundargarh, and Balasore, with thunderstorms, lightning, hailstorms, heavy rainfall, and winds of 50-60 kmph expected. Thunderstorms with winds of 30-40 kmph are also forecast for Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Dhenkanal, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangapur, Kalahandi, Boudh, Sonepur, Jharsuguda, Deogarh, and Sambalpur.
On April 29, the IMD issued an Orange warning for Nayagarh, Khurda, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Ganjam, and Cuttack, predicting thunderstorms, lightning, hailstorms, heavy rainfall, and winds of 50-60 kmph. Thunderstorms with winds of 40-50 kmph are likely in Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Nayagarh, and Gajapati.
