Bhubaneswar: Odisha Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati on Friday stressed the need to make Hindi a language of modern knowledge, technology and innovation, saying a language remains vibrant only when it evolves with time and connects with the aspirations of the younger generation.
Addressing the first International Official Language Annual Conference Odisha-2026 at the CSIR-Institute of Minerals and Materials Technology (CSIR-IMMT) here, Kambhampati said the development of Hindi was not the responsibility of the government alone and called for collective efforts by universities, educational institutions, writers, journalists, technology experts, industry and society.
Hindi acts as a link connecting India’s diverse linguistic and cultural traditions and its growth should be based on cooperation and respect for all Indian languages, the Governor said.
” Hindi should not be viewed as a substitute for any language, but as a powerful medium of communication, knowledge and national unity,” he said.
The Governor noted that Hindi has been gaining interest in several countries and among the Indian diaspora, adding that this also brings the responsibility of developing the language to meet future needs.
He called for making quality content related to science, medicine, law, economics, administration and higher education available in simple and authentic Hindi. Greater use of digital platforms, artificial intelligence, machine translation and other language technologies should also be encouraged, he said.
Kambhampati appreciated CSIR-IMMT’s efforts to integrate Hindi into scientific and technical work, saying such initiatives demonstrate that language can serve as a medium for science, research, technology and innovation.
He also underlined the role of young people in promoting Hindi through social media, digital education, employment, innovation and creative publications.
Highlighting Odisha’s rich cultural heritage, the Governor said linguistic and literary exchanges between Odia and Hindi strengthen national unity and should be encouraged.
Bipin Kumar, member of the Hindi Advisory Committee of the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, and Rakesh Kumar Yadav, Chief General Manager of the SBI Bhubaneswar Local Head Office and chairman of the Town Official Language Implementation Committee, Bhubaneswar (Bank), also addressed the conference.
Ramanujan Narayan, Director of CSIR-IMMT, Bhubaneswar and chairman of the Town Official Language Implementation Committee, Bhubaneswar (Office-02), delivered the welcome address, while senior scientist Manoj Kumar proposed the vote of thanks.
