Bhubaneswar: A woman voter allegedly fell ill and fainted due to heatstroke while standing in a queue at a polling booth in Boudh district, on Monday.

According to sources, Surubali Sethi had come to Krushnapali polling centre to cast her vote for the second phase of polling and was standing in a queue. She became unconscious while standing in a row. ASHA workers and police personnel present at the polling station provided primary treatment to Surabali. As she did not show any sign of improvement, police and ASHA workers called an ambulance.

As the ambulance failed to reach the venue, police rushed the heatstroke victim to a hospital in Puruna Cuttack. She is undergoing treatment there.

It is learnt from the hospital sources that Surabali fell unconscious while waiting for her turn due to the unbearable heatwave conditions.

Boudh district has been reeling under the grip of severe heatwave conditions, and this has made the lives of residents in Boudh miserable.
