Bhubaneswar: In a surprising turn of events, police stumbled upon a large quantity of illicit foreign liquor and a substantial amount of cash during a raid conducted on suspicion of drug peddling in Udala police station area in Mayurbhanj district.
Acting on specific intelligence, a police team raided the house of Devendra Behera, a resident of Teldihudi village under Udala police station, late on Tuesday night. Officers expected to recover narcotics, but what they found instead left them shocked — dozens of bottles of foreign-made liquor stacked inside the premises.
The team immediately seized the illicit liquor and proceeded with a thorough search of the house. During the search, police recovered more than Rs 6,10,000 cash, which was hidden in a box inside the house. The exact source of the money remains unclear, raising further suspicions.
Despite an extensive search, no drugs were found at the location. However, the recovery of such a large quantity of cash along with the foreign liquor has led investigators to strongly suspect that Devendra Behera may be involved in drug-related activities or other illegal operations.
Devendra Behera has been arrested and taken into custody. He is currently being interrogated at the Udala police station to ascertain the source of the cash and the liquor, and to determine any possible links to organized smuggling or peddling networks.
Further investigation is underway, and police have not ruled out the possibility of more recoveries or arrests in connection with the case.
