Bhubaneswar: Even as the depression weakened in the Bay of Bengal and sun shone brightly on Sunday, Odisha is likely to experience a wet Christmas this winter. If the forecast by meteorologist Umashankar Das is any indication, another low pressure area is likely to form in the west-central Bay triggering rain from December 24.
Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) handle, Das wrote that the active favourable low pressure area in the west-central Bay of Bengal region is likely to move west-southwestwards and by December 24, it is likely to be close to southwest Bay of Bengal, north Tamil Nadu and south Andhra Pradesh coasts.
Under the influence of a potential low pressure line over Odisha, sea wind laden with moisture will enter the state from the southeast resulting in cloudy skies and rain in south coastal and north coastal Odisha.
Meanwhile, the regional center of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar has forecast that there is no possibility of rainfall in the state till 8:30 am on Monday but several parts of Odisha may experience light to moderate rain from 8:30 am on Monday to 8:30 am on December 25.
Several places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Khurdha, Puri, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak and Balasore districts are likely to receive light to moderate rain during this period.
Similarly, light to moderate rainfall is likely in Gajapati, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Khordha, Cuttack, Puri, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Bhadrak and Balasore districts from 8:30 am on December 25 to 8:30 am on December 26.
