Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday night issued a Yellow nowcast warning for 15 districts of Odisha, forecasting light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty surface winds over the next three hours.
According to the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, wind speeds of 30-40 kmph are likely during the period. The districts covered under the warning are Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Subarnapur (Sonepur), Boudh, Angul, Sambalpur, Puri, Jharsuguda, Jagatsinghpur, Nayagarh, Khordha (including Bhubaneswar city), Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Sundargarh, Nuapada, Bargarh, Bhadrak and Balangir.
The weather office advised people in the affected areas to remain alert as conditions could deteriorate rapidly due to thunderstorm activity. Residents have been urged to monitor weather updates, avoid unnecessary outdoor movement during lightning, and take appropriate precautions to ensure their safety.
The nowcast warning was issued at 10:15 pm IST on Saturday and will remain valid for the next three hours.
