Bhubaneswar: In a welcome development for Odisha people who are battling an intense spell of heat and high humidity, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted a high probability of low-pressure area formation over the Bay of Bengal.
According to the latest prediction, there is a 91 to 97 per cent probability of cyclogenesis over the North Indian Ocean during the next two weeks. A low-pressure area is likely to develop over the central Bay of Bengal region around May 28 and 29.
IMD officials stated that favourable atmospheric conditions, including the Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO) phase and other supporting weather systems, are likely to trigger this development. Once formed, the low-pressure area is expected to move in a north-west direction, which may result in widespread rainfall and thundershowers across several parts of Odisha.
The anticipated low-pressure activity is expected to bring much-needed relief by increasing cloud cover, lowering temperatures, and reducing the overall discomfort caused by the gruelling heatwave.
